5 Ideal Iranian Football Players

  • Ali Daei
  • Andranik Teymourian
  • Javad Nekounam
  • Karim Bagheri
  • Ashkan Dejagah

Iran’s football team is worth a mention. According to the football prediction experts at ISB, many football players have made their mark on every football enthusiast’s heart. Let’s talk about the five 5 best Iranian footballers of all time.

Ali Daei – The World’s Greatest Goalscorer

It’s hard to look past Ali Daei as Iran’s greatest player. Between 1993 and 2006, no one scored more international goals than Daei’s record tally of 109. A prolific striker with superb technique and finishing, Daei easily found the net throughout his career in clubs and the country.

He scored twice to lead Iran to their first-ever World Cup in 1998. Daei’s feats as the world’s most prolific international goalscorer may never be matched. His dedication to his craft and achievements in an Iran shirt cement his place as the best.

Andranik Teymourian – Playmaker Extraordinaire

Many argue that Teymourian was Iran’s most technically gifted player. Blessed with sublime close control, passing range, and an eye for a defense-splitting pass, Teymourian dazzled in Germany and Switzerland between 1997 and 2017 after starting at Iranian giants Persepolis.

He was the brains behind Iran’s run to the 2006 FIFA World Cup, scoring sublime goals and assisting many more with his clever movement. In his prime, Teymourian effortlessly glided past opponents, conducting attacks with the ball. He was simply a joy to watch for his balance, dribbling, and creativity.

Javad Nekounam – Relentless Midfield Terrier

While not the most skilled, Nekounam made up for it with outstanding work rate, energy, and leadership. He captained Iran 149 times between 1999 and 2011, winning plenty of admirers for Osasuna and Charlton in Europe with his tackling, pressing, and ability to cover every blade of grass.

For example, the perfect box-to-box midfielder, Nekounam, was the engine driving Iran forward. Always committed and never backing down, he led by energetic performance, with fans adoring his lion-hearted displays for over a decade.

Karim Bagheri – Masterful Midfield Maestro

Playing between 1970-1984, Karim Bagheri was Iran’s first true star, excelling at club level before winning 56 caps. Rarely ruffled in possession, Bagheri dictated the tempo of games from central midfield with his passing range and composure on the ball.

He represented Iran at the 1978 and 1980 Asian Cups, standing out for his playmaking skills. Widely considered Iran’s first world-class football player, Bagheri was ahead of his time as a midfield general who laid strong foundations others could build on.

Ashkan Dejagah – Skillful Winger and Big Game Player

A tricky winger with searing pace, Ashkan Dejagah starred in the German Bundesliga with Hertha Berlin and Wolfsburg from 2007-2016, proving Iranians could cut it at the highest levels of European football. For Iran, between 2007-2016,

Dejagah was a constant threat down the flanks, providing goals and assists, notably at the 2014 World Cup, where he dazzled against Nigeria and Argentina. Blessed with dazzling close control and an eye for goal, Dejagah brought flair, skill, and big-game talent from the wings.

Final Thoughts on Ideal Iranian Players

In this footballer-mad nation, Iran continues to unearth talents who can take their skills worldwide. While team honors remain elusive, individual Iranians like Daei, Teymourian, Nekounam, Bagheri, and Dejagah have proudly worn their country’s shirt at the highest levels, inspiring generations of players to follow in their footsteps.
