The situation within the championship team “Red Bull” is heating up every day. Internal disagreements between key figures in management risk turning into a real crisis for the “stars” – from pilots to lead engineers and designers. Against this backdrop, Daniil Kvyat, once representing “Red Bull”, has hinted at his readiness to return to the big races if such an opportunity arises. He is in excellent shape and still thirsts for loud titles. But how realistic is his renaissance in the Royal races? Let’s try to understand the doors that could theoretically be opened for Kvyat.

All In The Past: Bright Pages Of Kvyat’s Career

Daniil Kvyat’s resume in Formula 1 looks more than solid. In 6 seasons with “Red Bull” and “Toro Rosso” he managed to participate in 112 Grand Prix races, scoring 2 podiums and 202 points. Moreover, in junior series, the pilot often outpaced his peer Carlos Sainz in terms of speed, thanks to which he earned a ticket to the big races earlier than the Spaniard.

Already in his debut season in 2014, Kvyat vividly demonstrated his potential, matching points with Jean-Éric Vergne in “Toro Rosso”. The talent of the pilot did not go unnoticed – in 2015 he moved to the royal “Red Bull”, where in a number of Grand Prix races he could compete with Daniel Ricciardo, who was then at the peak of his form.

Disappointment, Revival, And Decline

However, after a fatal mistake in Sochi in 2016, Kvyat lost his place in the top team in favor of the young Max Verstappen. It was a serious psychological blow for Daniil, who had been on the verge of becoming a world-class star just a year before. Another chance to rehabilitate himself in a major sport presented itself in 2019-2020 when Kvyat returned to “Toro Rosso”. However, he never managed to truly shine, only occasionally overtaking his partner Gasly.

Being dismissed at the end of 2020 put an end to Kvyat’s career in Formula 1. Nevertheless, the experienced pilot did not lose heart and continued to compete in other racing series – the WEC endurance racing championship and the junior NASCAR. However, the results turned out to be modest due to the insufficiently competitive technology.

Is Kvyat Eagerly Awaited At Red Bull?

Meanwhile, a serious scandal erupted within the Red Bull team. Team leaders Christian Horner and Helmut Marko fell out, after which Marko, together with Verstappen and engineer Adrian Newey, risked being sidelined. Max himself, according to rumors, is aiming for Mercedes.

In the event of a mass exodus of key figures from Red Bull, the team risks finding itself in a personnel vacuum.

And here on the horizon appeared Kvyat, who jokingly called the Austrian team. The Russian is in his prime and has a rich background within Red Bull’s structure. So if a catastrophe does happen, drivers like Kvyat with experience driving for this team will become the number one options for management.

Obstacles On The Way To A Triumphant Return

However, the likelihood of Kvyat’s career revival in big motorsport still remains small. At 29, drivers are usually at their peak and have continuous experience in Formula 1. The pilot spent 2 years completely outside its orbit — a huge gap that is extremely difficult to overcome.

Moreover, Kvyat has only two podium finishes, which is a low figure for a status team. It’s unlikely that with such a track record he would be considered for a leadership role. Most likely, the maximum Kvyat could count on is the role of an experienced “landlord”, a finisher with the duties of an experienced pilot in car setup.

In any case, such an option is possible only in an absolutely apocalyptic scenario for Red Bull. In the current situation, Kvyat can only wait for a call from another team and pave his way to F1 through junior series.

Conclusion

Daniil Kvyat’s franchise in Formula 1 looks fantastic, but it shouldn’t be completely discounted. Stories of big motorsport are known for much more unlikely renaissances of famous racers after years of oblivion. And the situation at Red Bull is becoming more dramatic with each passing day.

If a catastrophe occurs at the Austrian stable, Kvyat may have a chance to return to the big races. Even if it’s as an experienced driver for team development. However, for this, he will have to stay in top form, meaning he’ll have to continue fighting for results on alternative racing tracks and championships. He’s alive, he’s motivated, now he just has to wait for the possible call of fate.
