We are 12 games into the Danish Superliga season, and it is shaping up to be one of the tightest title races in Europe. Just six points separate the top seven teams in the division, but with some crucial fixtures coming up, the title picture could become clearer over the next few weeks.

With that in mind, here’s a look at the main contenders for this season’s Danish Superliga title:

Midtjylland

The defending Danish champions are once again in the title hunt, but after a superb start to the campaign, they have stumbled in recent weeks. Back to back defeats to Brondby and Sønderjyske have seen them overhauled at the top of the table. They also have a string of tough fixtures coming up (including a mouthwatering return clash with Brondby), so Midtjylland need to turn their form around sooner rather than later if they are to retain their crown. Key to that will be the form of striker Franculino Dju. The Bissau-Guinean star scored four goals in five games earlier in the season, but has failed to find the net during Midtjylland’s two recent defeats.

Copenhagen

If you are comparing betting sites without rofus, you are likely to find Midtjylland and Copenhagen neck and neck at the top of the Danish Superliga title market. Currently, it is the side from the capital that holds a narrow goal difference advantage in the standings. Since losing to their title rivals in September, Copenhagen have put together a run of three wins and a draw from their last four fixtures. The form of ex-Southampton forward Mohamed Elyounossi has been crucial to Copenhagen’s recent success.

The Moroccan has six goals and four assists already this season, and if he can continue that rich form, Copenhagen have an excellent chance of regaining their title.

Brondby

Despite languishing in sixth place, Brondby are still third favorites to win the league title. The 2021 champions have struggled for consistency so far, losing three of their opening 12 games. However, their recent victory over Midtjylland was arguably the standout performance of the season. If they can consistently produce displays of that caliber and avoid the kind of performances that saw than thrashed 4-1 at Nordsjælland last month, they could yet overhaul the six point gap at the top of the table.

AGF

As the only Superliga side to have lost just once so far this season, AGF are certainly adept at avoiding defeat. Unfortunately, the side from Aarhus have drawn their last four fixtures, to level themselves four points off the leaders. Slow start have been AGF’s Achilles heel in the last month. They have fallen behind in four of their last five fixtures, a sequence that needs to change if they are to keep pace with the top teams.

The biggest source of encouragement for AGF is that, in Tobias Bech and Patrick Mortensen, they arguably have the most in-form from partnership in the division. The Danish duo have six goals each, and their form could end up being a decisive factor in the second half of the title race.

Other contenders

Silkeborg, Randers and Nordsjælland are the other teams in the top seven of the table. However, the bookies have them as long as 16.0 and 35.0 respectively to win the league. In large part, this is down to their relatively weak squad depth, as well as the fact that they have few players with experience of title winning campaigns. Nevertheless, if either of those teams can maintain their early season form, the Danish Superliga could end up with a highly unexpected winner.
