December 26 sees the traditional WWE Madison Square Garden Christmas show take place. It’s a massive time for the professional wrestling company as they prepare themselves for what will be a sensational 2025 for them.
The Madison Square Garden show comes just weeks before WWE launch on Netflix on January 6, 2025. With the Royal Rumble due to take place on February 1 and the John Cena retirement tour, next year is going to be an amazing year for the company.
WWE is on the Road to the Royal Rumble at present and that will make the New York matches even more fascinating. Wrestlers will be trying to build up momentum hoping to be able to win their Royal Rumble match and earn a title shot at WrestleMania 41.
Betting on WWE is available despite its results being predetermined. The current favorites to win the men’s Royal Rumble are CM Punk and The Rock. Punk hasn’t held a title since his return to the company last year. A win for The Rock could lead to a title match with Universal Champion Cody Rhodes next April.
There is also a Women’s Royal Rumble and former champion Becky Lynch is the current market leader. Lynch hasn’t appeared in a WWE ring and her contract expired in June but it’s rumored a return is on its way. Another long-term absentee Charlotte (the daughter of Ric Flair) and Bayley are also high in the betting as is Jade Cargill.
The December 26 show promises to be a sensational night of professional wrestling at a venue that’s more famously used for boxing. Wrestling has for many years been held there though and some big matches are lined up for this show..
Two big title fights are due to take place on the Madison Square Garden show. The ‘Ring General’ Gunther will be defending his World Heavyweight title against former champion Damian Priest who was born in New York.
Priest won the World Heavyweight title in April of this year. He cashed in his ‘Money in the Bank’ briefcase on Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 40, just minutes after the Scottish wrestler had won the title from Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins.
At the time, Priest was leading the Judgement Day faction but that’s not so now. Finn Balor turned on him at Summerslam in August and that led to Gunther taking the title off him. The rest of the year has been spent seeing Priest in feuds with Balor, the team of Liv Morgan and Dominik Mysterio (partnering with Rhea Ripley) and trying to regain his world title.
He received a shot at the title at November’s Survivor Series PLE but came up short with Balor again interfering. Now comes this scheduled title shot at Madison Square Garden. It’d mean so much to Priest if he could win the title back in his home city and at the historic Madison Square Garden.
The Women’s World title is also scheduled to be on the line. Liv Morgan is due to defend her belt against Iyo Sky. With Morgan being on the card, that means Dominik Mysterio won’t be far away.
Will Morgan still be the champion when this show takes place? December really is a big month for WWE fans in New York City. On December 14, there’s the return of WWE’s Saturday Night Main Event at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island. That show is also scheduled to see Morgan defend her title against Sky. Will that match see a new champion crowned or Morgan retain her belt?
Whatever the result of that match on December 14, the two are due to again face each other at Madison Square Garden 12 days later.
Online sportsbook apps available in New York such as FanDuel have already set moneline odds on the event. Check out the latest NY bet offers on this site for more information.
Morgan won the title in May of this win on a show held in Saudi Arabia with a victory over Becky Lynch. Most of her time since then has seen her feuding with Rhea Ripley but the Australian has been unable to regain the title that she has previously held. The presence of Dominik Mysterio (who used to be Ripley’s partner) has helped her keep the title.
Now she faces the challenge of Japanese star Iyo Sky who is a former WWE Women’s champion and bound to give Morgan a tough time in their upcoming matches.
Over the years there have been some stunning cage matches held at Madison Square Garden. This year’s December 26 show promises to add to that history with Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins continuing his feud against ‘Big’ Bronson Reed.
A stacked card is also expected to see appearances by CM Punk, Sami Zayn, LA Knight, Rey Mysterio, The Wyatt Sicks and The New Day.
An exciting time lies ahead for WWE and the Madison Square Garden show on December 26 is not to be missed.
