Today’s post-secondary students are more competitive and athletic than ever before. Rather than spending their free time partying or hitting the bars, they are participating in various sports leagues to get their competitive fix. If you are also looking for something new to do after graduation or just want to stay active while attending school, you may want to consider joining one of the post-secondary sports leagues.

Opportunity Awaits

Universities and colleges are consistently among the top employers of athletes. Many post-secondary institutions continue to offer athletic programs for their students. It includes opportunities to compete against other universities and colleges by creating different sports leagues.

Besides intramural sports, which are competitions between various departments or student organizations within a single institution, there are several intercollegiate sports leagues available at North American universities and colleges. There are also a few post-secondary sports leagues that feature athletes who play primarily in high schools but choose to compete again once they’re in college.

What is a Post-Secondary Sports League?

It involves athletes from different institutions of higher education schools competing in certain sports. There are many types of sports leagues, but one of the most common types is a sports league consisting of institutions that play American football, basketball, baseball, and ice hockey.

Another type of sports league is for sports like soccer, rugby, field hockey, and lacrosse, among others. Post-secondary sports leagues of this kind are much less common, but they do exist. If you’re clued up on all the major sporting events and stats, try playing NCAAF odds to see how you fare with your sports knowledge at online wagering with the possibility of winning extra cash in the process.

What’s The Difference Between an Intramural and an Intercollegiate Sport?

According to the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA), intramural sports are “designed primarily for educational purposes and are recreational in nature.” Intercollegiate sports, on the other hand, are “designed primarily as a method of determining eligibility. An intramural sport is played between members of the same department or student organization within a single institution.

An intercollegiate match is played between two or more institutions. However, there are a few sports that are both intramural and intercollegiate. In these cases, members of the same team might represent their institution in one competition while the rest of the team competes against other departments within the same institution in another competition.

Other Options to Consider

Although joining a post-secondary sports league is a quick and easy way to get involved in sports while at university or college, there are a few other options you may want to consider. First, many post-secondary institutions offer intramural sports clubs as well. While these clubs are not as competitive as post-secondary sports leagues, they are still a great way to get active and meet new people on campus.

Additionally, many post-secondary institutions have outdoor fields and courts where students can play free pickup games of various sports year-round. This option is best for students who are experienced and have knowledge of different sports. Post-secondary sports leagues are a good option if you want to compete and get serious about your sport. For those who are casual and just want to get active and meet new people, intramural sports clubs or pickup games are a better option.

Conclusion

If you want to join a post-secondary sports league, you can find the information on these leagues on various websites online in your area. The two most popular websites to find post-secondary sports leagues are Biggy and Intramuralplay. These sites list all types of leagues by doing general research on your city. Once you have results, you can narrow down your choices by sport.
