Our NFL Power Rankings for December
The NFL is in full flight at present, with teams looking to ensure that they are the ones going into the playoffs in great shape. Every team still has the ambition of winning the Super Bowl unless they are already mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. However, that does not mean that every team has the same chance, as NFL Betting Lines will show you.
Entering Week 15 of the season is a key moment, as it’s time you begin to realize which teams are in serious contention for a postseason run. Some teams have risen very high on the list after one or two weeks as they show off their playoff credentials, while others have tumbled down the list and are now out of contention, including the Houston Texans, Chicago Bears, and Denver Broncos.
Below is our NFL Power Ranking for December as we look ahead to Week 15 in the NFL.
Philadelphia Eagles
There is no doubt about the identity of the team that is at the very top of our Power Rankings. The Philadelphia Eagles are playing a brand of football that is both entertaining and effective in equal measure. They are having a special year on both ends of the field, scoring points for fun while also restricting the touchdowns their opponents can manage on their drives.
With Jalen Hurts in the top position in terms of quarterback statistics and other Eagles players standing out, they are one of the teams that look like a fantastic bet to go all the way to the Super Bowl. The Eagles have a formidable 12-1 record going into Week 15, which they will be hoping to carry forward in their remaining games.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs are slowly emerging as a possible dynasty in the NFL under the guidance of coach Andy Reid. They are a tremendous team that is continuing to win football games, even when they have the occasional setback in the postseason. With Patrick Mahomes at quarterback, the Chiefs know they can win any game through his magic.
Now that their defense has improved as the season has progressed, they are serious contenders heading into the postseason. The Chiefs have a 10-3 record at present, but anyone knows that coming up against them is a less-than-ideal matchup.
Buffalo Bills
A surprise package from this season, the Buffalo Bills are showing that they are no longer also-rans. There were several years in the NFL when the Bills were not serious playoff contenders. They would show some promise early in the season, but they would eventually fizzle out and end up having to settle for third or last place in their division.
The present Buffalo Bills squad is very different, and the current team is right up there at the top of the ladder with the Chiefs with a 10-3 record. However, the Bills are an outstanding team that can dominate anyone on their day.
While they do have an offense that is statistically regarded as one of the top three in the NFL, they have been struggling slightly in that area in recent weeks. The Bills will be hoping they can iron out these issues and have a clear rotation by the time the playoffs roll around.
Dallas Cowboys
Another team that had become a bit of a punchline in the NFL for never making the playoffs or doing anything consequential, the Dallas Cowboys, is now back as one of the best teams in the league. Even though quarterback Dak Prescott was missing for five games due to a fractured thumb, the Cowboys still have an offense that is ranked seventh overall.
Moreover, they are expected to get even better by the time the playoffs start, as Prescott will be back and 100% integrated with his teammates by then. During Prescott’s absence, the Cowboy’s defense really stepped up and kept the team in contention. They also have an outstanding running game, thanks to Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers are the definition of a late bloomer this season. They started the campaign in patchy form and were even at 0.500 at one stage. They were concerned about whether their campaign would fizzle out before it ever really got going and never gained momentum. However, the San Francisco 49ers have been incredibly consistent over the past couple of months. They now have an impressive 9-4 record that sees them high up on our Power Rankings list, despite losing quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo for the rest of the season thanks to a broken foot.
In fact, in Garoppolo’s absence, the Niners might just have found themselves a brand new superstar QB in the making with rookie Brock Purdy, who excelled in the convincing 35-7 Week 14 win against Brady’s Bucs.
While the 49ers do have a worry about the depth of their offensive strength, they are of the mindset that their defense will help them go deep in the playoffs, and with Purdy now in the mix, their postseason prospects seem incredibly bright, even without Garoppolo.
