Formula 1 has never ceased to entertain since its inception. Seeing fast autos racing in a Grand Prix is thrilling, and being able to bet on the races on an online sports betting platform adds to the joy. The 2024 F1 actions have already started, and the competition is fiercer.
Some drivers have picked up from where they stopped last season, while others are struggling to gain their balance. The British Grand Prix showdown is scheduled for 5th to 7th July, and the Silverstone Circuit promises a race to anticipate. But before then, let’s examine how the top drivers have performed with just 8 Grand Prix.
Max Verstappen — Red Bull
With eight races gone already, Max Verstappen is leading 2024 Formula 1 with 169 points. This is unsurprising, as everyone expected his impressive form from last season to continue. His impressive form last season saw him lose only 3 of the 23 Grand Prix, with Qatar Airways Emilia Romagna GP cancelled.
The Dutchman has continued this fine form with five victories in 8 races in 2024. His highest point so far this season is 33 from the China Grand Prix. The Red Bull man grips the number-one spot despite missing the Australia GP. This season promises to be another outstanding racing year for Verstappen.
Charles Leclerc — Ferrari
Leclerc finished the 2023 season in 5th position with 206 and is sitting at second with 8 GPs gone. He won his first race at Monaco GP, taking him to 138 points. Having won just one race this season, some might think he is not meeting expectations.
However, checking Laclerc’s positions in the first eight races, he has never given beyond 4th position. He came 2nd in Australia and was 3rd on three occasions. With 31 points between him and Verstappen, he will hope to build on his Monaco success in Canada this June to close the gap.
Lando Norris — McLaren
Norris ended the second half of the 2023 Formula 1 season strong, and many hoped he would continue that in 2024. However, Norri’s first two races fall short of expectations. He finished 6th and 8th, respectively, before coming third in Australia.
Norris appears to gradually gain his grand when he wins the Miami race and comes second in China and Emilia Romagna. He currently sits at the 3rd position after just eight races with 113 points. With the Canada GP coming up soon, Norris is a driver to look out for in the coming race.
Carlos Sainz — Ferrari
After Ferrari wants to replace him with Lewis Hamilton, Sainz will be working into the 2025 season as a free agent. He has started this season well, ending up on the podium in 4 out of 8 races. He won the Australia Grand Prix and is 5 points behind Norris at 4th.
Despite missing out on Saudi Arabia’s GP due to injury, having 108 points is still commendable. With the coming Canada race, we expect him to put up a great show. Hopefully, he can be a high-value free-agent driver at the end of 2024.
Sergio Perez — Red Bull
Perez did not let his teammate Verstappen’s high performance get to him. He was second in his first two races and had 107 points despite crashing out of the Italy GP. Hopefully, he can bounce back and climb higher in the coming Grand Prix.
The Red Bull man remains a top talent to watch out for in Canada.
Where is Lewis Hamilton?
It’s strange for Hamilton not to be mentioned in the top 5 after 8 Grand Prix. This made it one of his worst seasons. He shows he is still skilled, coming second in China, but currently sits at 8 with 42 points. Will he bounce back? We don’t have an answer, but we hope the seven times champion will turn things around.
