Rory McIlroy recently became the first men’s professional golfer to win the Harry Vardon Trophy in three consecutive years, which is awarded to the winner each year of the Race to Dubai. The 35-year-old’s most recent win on the DP World Tour Championship is just one of several important victories this year, so let’s dive straight in and take a closer look at his amazingly consistent year so far. What are the odds on him winning for a fourth straight year and setting a new record?

Rory Mcilroy Is In Fine Form

Rory McIlroy has proved his doubters wrong throughout 2024 and has had another consistent season on the official DP World Tour. He has also been one of the most popular bets for golfing fans on trusted sportsbooks who have priced him with highly competitive odds all season as one of the favourites to win the events he has participated in.

His latest win came at the Races to Dubai, which ran from November 13-17 on the Jumeirah Golf Estates Earth Course in Dubai and saw him match the impressive achievements of the late Seve Ballesteros.

He is also now within grasp of matching the all time record of Colin Montgomerie – eight Order of Merit titles.

When arriving at the DP World Tour Championship, he came in with a 1,785-point advantage, thanks to a win at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. He was also the runner-up on four separate occasions on the current DP World Tour campaign.

Just one week prior, he extended his lead over his closest challenger, Thriston Lawrence, after claiming a share of third at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, meaning the South African would need to claim a victory and for McIlroy to finish outside of the top-11.

How Has His Season Been So Far?

His season got off to a great start in January (10-14) on the Dubai Creek Resort course at the Dubai Invitational, when he shared second with Lawrence. Here are some of his other most notable finishes so far this year:

  • Tournament: Dubai Desert Classic. Course: Majlis. Dates: January 17-21. Finished: 1st
  • Tournament: Valero Texas Open. Course: TPC San Antonio – AT&T Oaks Course. Dates: April 4-7. Finished: 3rd
  • Tournament: Zurich Classic. Course: TPC at Louisiana. Dates: April 25-28. Finished: 1st
  • Tournament: Wells Fargo Championship. Course: Quail Hollow Golf & Country Club. Dates: May 9-12. Finished: 1st
  • Tournament: Canadian Open. Course: Hamilton Golf and Country Club. Dates: May 30-June 2. Finished: T4
  • Tournament: U.S Open. Course: Pinehurst No. 2. Dates: June 13-16. Finished: 2nd

He also finished T4 at the Scottish Open (July 11-14) at the Renaissance Club Course, made the cut at The Open on the Royal Troon Golf Club course (July 18-21), and second at the Irish Open on the Royal County Down Championship Course (September 12-15).

He was also the runner-up at the BMW PGA Championship (September 19-22) on the Wentworth Club Course and T3 on the Yas Links Course at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Gold Championship (November 6-10).

Final thoughts

Despite the impressive 2024 campaign, McIlroy still isn’t the odds-on favourite to win the 2025 Open Championship or U.S Open. He is, however, the second favourite, and if he can continue with his fine form over the coming months, there’s a good chance he could upset the current market prices and win both events.
