If you were one of the millions glued to their TV screens watching the Netflix docu-hit Quarterback, get ready for round two. Jamie Horowitz, Peyton Manning, Omaha Productions and NFL Films are gearing up for a sequel of sorts called Receiver.
Omaha Productions is a sports media company founded by football great Peyton Manning and sports TV wunderkind Jamie Horowitz. It’s known for producing hit series such as ManningCast on ESPN, Eli’s Places on ESPN+, and, of course, Netflix’s Quarterback.
Quarterback, a fly-on-the-wall documentary series following three of the NFL’s starting quarterbacks — Patrick Mahomes, Marcus Mariota, and Kirk Cousins — throughout the 2022-23 season, was the hottest show on Netflix in the summer of 2023. It was a massive success, racking up 21.4 million view hours in its first week while becoming the most-streamed show on the platform.
“We are excited to be working again with Netflix and NFL Films to give fans unprecedented access to what it’s like to play receiver at the highest level,” said Manning. “As we did with Quarterback, we look forward to telling the stories of five incredible receivers, each with their unique personality, skill set, and motivation for what drives them to be the best.”
Coming off of the back of Quarterback’s resounding success, Jamie Horowitz and Peyton Manning are back with Receiver. This docuseries is set to follow some of the league’s most interesting and talented pass catchers the league has to offer in Davante Adams of the Las Vegas Raiders, Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings, San Francisco 49ers George Kittle and Debo Samuel, and Detroit Lion Amon-Ra St. Brown. Viewers will get an insider’s look at the highs and lows of each player’s 2023-24 NFL season.
Davante Adams
Adams experienced a challenging 2023 season with the Raiders, marked by team struggles and his own frustrations. Despite this, he made history by becoming the first Raiders player to record multiple seasons with 100-plus receptions. While the NFL had been against having a team in Las Vegas for decades, it’s now the home of one of the league’s premier pass catchers. It will be very interesting to see a day in the life of a star player in Sin City, along with his highs and lows of the season.
Justin Jefferson
Jefferson has thrived with QB Kirk Cousins, leveraging their dynamic to become one of the leading receivers in the NFL. Cousins captured the hearts of viewers around the world in Season 1 of Quarterback and they’ll now get a closer look into the life of his top receiver both on and off the field. Jefferson had a difficult 2023 season, fighting through hamstring and chest injuries that kept him sidelined for seven games. However, when he was able to play he continued to prove himself as one of the league’s most promising pass catchers. This was a roller coaster of a season for Jefferson and millions will get to experience how he navigated the year each step of the way.
George Kittle
Kittle played a vital role in the 49ers’ journey to the Super Bowl. His performance in crucial games and his ability to come through in high-pressure moments will keep viewers on the edge of their seats as he proves why he was the only tight end selected by Jamie Horowitz, Peyton Manning, and Omaha Productions to be featured in the series. Viewers can also look forward to the vibrant personality that made Kittle one of the most widely loved players in the league.
Deebo Samuel
Samuel is known for his versatility as both a receiver and a rusher, making significant contributions to the 49ers’ offense. Similar to Kittle, Samuel played an essential role in San Francisco’s trip to the Super Bowl. Getting a look into his life and unique role on a team as arguably the league’s most dangerous weapon will keep fans glued to their screens.
Amon-Ra St. Brown
The Lions had a standout year, nearly reaching the Super Bowl, with St. Brown playing a pivotal role. His performance against teams like the 49ers during the NFC Championship, where he pulled in seven catches for 87 yards, underscores his rising star in the league. St. Brown was one of the NFL’s best-performing receivers in the 2023 season. Watching a star in the making, leading his team to their best season in over three decades, will be a singular opportunity fans can’t get anywhere else.
