The NBA has always been a league full of talented players, and each season, we see new stars emerge while established players continue to push the boundaries of what is possible on the court.

As the new NBA season started, fans were already buzzing about which players would make the biggest impact and capture our attention throughout the year.

With that said, here are some of the top players to watch in the upcoming 2024-25 NBA season:

1.   Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks)

Often dubbed the “Greek Freak,” Giannis Antetokounmpo is ready to remind the world why he’s a perennial MVP contender. The past two injury-stricken postseasons may have dimmed his spotlight, but entering the 2024-25 season at full health, Giannis is on a mission.

At 30, he’s acutely aware of the ticking clock on Milwaukee’s championship window, with the Bucks being among the older squads in the NBA. Yet, his confidence in his teammates is unwavering. “We’re not getting any younger, but that doesn’t mean we cannot still perform at a high level,” Giannis remarked.

Embarking on this season, his aim is clear: to bring back the glory of their 2021 championship run and prove that age is just a number for these battle-tested players. And the Milwaukee Bucks have pretty good odds of winning the NBA Cup this year, with Giannis back and healthy.

2.   Ja Morant (Memphis Grizzlies)

Ja Morant is ready to reclaim his status as one of the NBA’s most electrifying talents in the 2024-25 season. Following a tumultuous period marked by off-court incidents and injuries, Morant has a renewed focus on leading the Memphis Grizzlies back to prominence.

Amid last season’s disappointing 27-55 record, Morant’s absence was sorely felt, but he is now healthy and motivated to return to his dominant form. Standing at six feet, three inches, his explosive speed and agility make him a nightmare for defenders, and his ability to execute jaw-dropping plays brings fans to their feet.

The Grizzlies’ fortunes this season largely hinge on Morant’s performance, and he’s determined to prove that both he and his team can meet and exceed expectations.

3.   Victor Wembanyama (San Antonio Spurs)

Victor Wembanyama is entering his second NBA season, and fans and analysts alike are watching with bated breath. His rookie year was nothing short of disruptive, as he seamlessly adjusted to the NBA with a towering presence both offensively and defensively.

Standing at an impressive 2.24 meters, Wembanyama’s impact on the court is undeniable. Having led the French Olympic team to a silver medal with stellar performances, he has honed his skills against top-tier competition. His size, coupled with his feathery jump shot and pinpoint accuracy, makes him a dual threat and a nightmare for defenders.

As the favorite for the NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Wembanyama is poised not only to become a household name but also to change the game this season.

4.   Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves)

Anthony Edwards, often affectionately referred to as “Antman,” has truly elevated his game to superstar status in recent months. The 23-year-old has been the driving force behind the Timberwolves’ impressive run to the NBA Western Conference finals and played a pivotal role in Team USA’s golden triumph at the Paris Summer Olympics.

His on-court performances have sparked comparisons to none other than Michael Jordan, a testament to his dynamic playing style and leadership qualities. In the 2023-24 season, Edwards averaged an impressive 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists, earning a deserved spot in his second All-Star game.

At 6’4″, his newfound focus on three-point shooting is expected to enhance his scoring threat as he leverages his versatility to become an even more formidable offensive powerhouse this season.

5.   Zion Williamson (New Orleans Pelicans)

Zion Williamson is finally poised for a breakout season, shedding the “what could have been” narratives that have surrounded his career. Initially heralded as the NBA’s next great, Zion has faced setbacks due to injuries and weight issues.

However, last season marked a turning point as he showed glimpses of his prodigious talent by playing a career-high 70 games and averaging 22.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and five assists per game. Dubbed “Skinny Zion,” he has transformed his physique, raising hopes and the Pelicans’ expectations.

The upcoming 2024-25 season is pivotal for Zion—it’s not just about impressive stats but about leading New Orleans to a 50-win milestone they haven’t seen since the 2007-08 campaign. Fans eagerly anticipate his contributions on both ends of the court.
