Kobe Bryant is one of the most iconic basketball players to ever play in the NBA. He has earned the distinction of being the best player in franchise history, leading the Lakers to five titles during his 20-year career. The 6’6 guard has an impressive resume that includes three NBA MVP awards, 18 All-NBA selections, two Olympic gold medals and two Finals MVPs. Now at age 37, it appears that this season will be his last in the league. While many are glad to see him hanging up his sneakers for good, he will be sorely missed by fans and players alike. The day Kobe announced he would retire was a sad day for many, not just Lakers fans. He was a once in a generation player and the face of the franchise for many years. His Los Angeles themed sneakers from Nike were some of the best selling shoes over the last few decades, rivaling Michael Jordan’s signature line from Nike.

Early career

Bryant was selected with the 13th overall pick in the 1996 NBA draft by the Charlotte Hornets, then traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. In his first three seasons with the Lakers, he was primarily a backup guard behind Eddie Jones, playing a total of 99 games and averaging 8.7 ppg. In 1997, Bryant became a starter and increased his scoring average to 17.5 ppg over his final three seasons with the Lakers.
