In recent years, we have seen plenty of collaborations between some of the top companies in the world, whether it’s TV shows and live casino jackpot slots, or designer fashion brands and your favourite band. When collaborations occur, it is bound to stir some hype. One of the biggest crossovers we see today is between big-name fashion brands and some of the top sports teams, combining passion for clubs with the element of streetwear.
So today, we will be taking a look at some of the most unique crossovers between fashion and sport.
New York Yankees X Supreme
Possibly one of the most iconic and well-known baseball teams in the world, the New York Yankees have always had a slight appearance in the world of fashion. While you may not be familiar with the 27-time World Series winners, you may be aware of the iconic New Era New York Yankees baseball cap that has been seen on shelves around the world, as well as featured in the fashion industry.
In 2022, the Yankees entered the fashion industry even more by teaming up with a New York-based fashion and skateboarding company, Supreme. The collaboration looked to join the dots between fashion and sport by releasing a collection of clothing items, rather than any form of sports merchandise. The collection included hoodies, t-shirts, caps and many more items. Overall, the drop was a success, selling out around the world, spreading the name of the New York Yankees while combining the worlds of fashion and sport.
Juventus X Palace
From one Skateboard company to another, Palace Skateboards is another big-name fashion designer that took on the challenge of stepping into the sports industry, this time with Juventus. Juventus are a global, big-name club that has dominated in Europe and in Italy for many years. The 36-time Serie A champions have also taken home 2 Champions Leagues and signed some of the biggest names in football, including Zidane, Cristiano Ronaldo, Buffon, Pirlo and many more.
But in 2019, Juventus announced a new collaboration through their kit provider, Adidas. The collaboration would see a new range of football-related items being released, including a new jersey. Unlike the previous collaboration, Juventus would actually use the Palace X Adidas kit in a real game, with one of the greatest players of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo, wearing it out on the pitch. Like many of the Palace collaborations, this was a massive success, selling out around the world, and even years later, it is still a talking point when it comes to sporting collaborations.
Bape X NBA
Rather than just working on a collaboration with one team, Bape took their entry into the sporting world with a whole different approach, and collaborated with the NBA on several different pieces, including limited edition jerseys. Bape, also known as ‘A Bathing Ape’, is a Japanese fashion brand that is known around the world for its crazy designs and common use of camouflage throughout. They were founded in 1993 and have been a massive part of the industry ever since, with a whole range of collaborations throughout their time.
In 2018. Bape, Mitchell & Ness and the NBA released a ‘Hardwood Classics’ drop that features an array of team jerseys combined with the unique design of Bape. These teams included:
- Chicago Bulls
- Boston Celtics
- Los Angeles Lakers
- Golden State Warriors
- Cleveland Cavaliers
- New York Knicks
- Houston Rockets
- Portland Trail Blazers
But after the success of the first drop, a second release came in 2022, featuring:
- New York Knicks
- Los Angeles Lakers
- Miami Heat
- New Jersey Nets
The products included jerseys and apparel, and were a great success in both sport and fashion. With the drops being so popular, maybe we will see a similar collaboration like this once again.
AC Milan X Off White
It’s a recent trend that football clubs team up with fashion designers and big brands in order to provide them with off-the-pitch clothing. However, when AC Milan teamed up with Italian-founded high-end fashion company Off White, they took their partnership to the next level. AC Milan is one of the biggest clubs in the World, let alone Italy, with 19 league titles and 7 Champions League trophies. With Milan being one of the homes of fashion, it is understandable why they take pride in their appearance on and off the pitch.
This is where the late Virgil Abloh’s Off White came in. It was in 2022 when the Italian fashion giant announced a collaboration with AC Milan to provide them with unique pieces for travel and off-pitch accessories that could also be bought by fans. But this collab went one step further in 2025, releasing an Off White X Puma X AC Milan 4th kit to be used in a real game. Both the black and red variants featured unique, never-before-seen designs with the iconic Off White tag, making it not just a kit to be worn, but a kit to be styled in fashion.
