Throughout the year, there are plenty of major games and tournaments to enjoy. But sometimes it’s a good idea to focus on a single month. Already in April, there have been some major sporting events. The month kicked off the Grand National and the surprising upset of I Am Maximus, the clear favourite, losing to a stable-mate. However, if you’ve already missed this major event, there are plenty of other exciting sports to watch.

Basketball is back

One of the most anticipated sporting events of the year is the NBA playoffs. The play-in tournament runs from April 15th to 18th, followed by the first round starting on the 19th, with four key series tipping off from April 20th. The Boston Celtics, last season’s champions, are currently leading the charge as favourites. For fans looking to stay more engaged during this pivotal part of the season, platforms like Malawi Bet offer a range of betting options that align with the ongoing games—allowing followers to interact with the playoffs in a more involved and informed way.

Champions in snooker

From the 19th of April, snooker is back. The World Championship runs from April to the 5th of May, where the final will take place. This year, Kyren Wilson is aiming to defend his title though he’s not the World number one at this time. With challengers like Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump in the wings, this could be a hard-fought battle.

It’s all taking place in the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.

MLB kicks off

Technically, the baseball season has already begun. The new season started on the 18th March when the Dodgers and Cubs matched up in Tokyo. However, this was more of a showcase, with many local players simply getting the chance to perform in front of a home crowd. As such, it’s not really the official opener for the season. This was actually on the 27th March, with an impressive 28 of 30 teams all seeing action. The games are going to continue throughout April, making this a truly baseball-packed month.

Masters of golf

Another major tournament this month is the Masters at Augusta National. Taking place from the 7th to the 13th April, it’s the first major golfing tournament this year. Scottie Scheffler, the current world number one, is looking to become the first golfer to claim the green Jacket in consecutive years. If he does this, it will be the first time a golfer has achieved this since 2002, when Tiger Woods managed it. And he’s won this specific Masters two out of the last three times.

If Scheffler can win it again, he’ll be the ninth golfer to claim this Masters at least three times.

Grand Prix’s galore

Formula 1 has already been going for a month or so now, but April is a busy one for this racing sport. Already on the 6th April we had the excitement of the Japanese Grand Prix. Eyes were all on Yuki Tsunoda in front of his home crowd, now finally promoted to the Red Bull seat for the first time. Despite the mild disappointment of that rather uneventful race, there are more races to come in April. Impressively, three races in, and we’re already on three winners. On the 13th, it’s the Bahrain GP, which could really start to see where the winners and losers are. Following that, on the 20th April it’s the Saudi Arabian GP, which is only going to bring further excitement as the sport gears up for the Miami GP the following month.

As such, there’s an astounding array of sporting events and games ready to be watched. Make a note of the top events, and don’t miss out this April.
