Mike Tyson returns to the ring for the first time since 2020 when he takes on Youtuber-turned professional boxer Jake Paul in November. The bout between “The Baddest Man on the Planet” and the celebrity fighter is part of a Netflix live event that was due to take place in July, but an injury to Tyson means fans will have to wait until November for the action to commence.
Tyson, regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in history, officially retired in 2005, but took on Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition match four years ago. Now, he returns to the ring to take on Paul – known for fighting older boxers and MMA fighters before his first professional loss to Tommy Fury last year.
In this article, we take a look at the build up to the fight on November 15 and try to predict the outcome of a fight that has the internet and boxing enthusiasts alike interested. Read on to find out more.
Where To Watch?
The fight was initially scheduled for the summer, but when Tyson suffered an ulcer flare up, the medical team advised that the bout would be postponed.
“My body is in better overall shape than it has been since the 1990s and I will be back to my full training schedule soon.” Tyson said back in July.
The heavyweight bout will consist of eight two-minute rounds, now taking place in November at the AT&T Stadium in Texas.
It was announced that Netflix and Most Valuable Promotions will host a full card of boxing to be streamed live.
Pre-Fight Form
Looking at the Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul odds, it will come as a surprise that Paul is the favourite to win.
With 50 wins and six losses – 44 of which were knockouts — Tyson is a six-time world champion, although given his age, many wonder if he will pull his punches against a significantly weaker opponent.
Paul has secured victories over notable opponents such as Tyron Woodley, Nate Diaz, and Anderson Silva. However, it’s worth noting that most of his wins have been against older fighters.
He was completely outclassed by Fury in February 2023 but did manage to go the distance before ultimately losing by unanimous decision.
At 27, Paul will have to use his age and fitness to keep himself in the fight and then hope to score points late on if Tyson fatigues.
Who Is Jake Paul?
Paul gained internet celebrity status through his brother Logan, who is now a WWE wrestler. The brothers are largely popular with a younger audience, having gained traction for their celebrity matches, but boxing purists are still unconvinced by the 27-year-old’s ability.
With a nickname of ‘The Problem Child’ Paul is an impressive athlete and has established a great set of trainers throughout his boxing career but has built a reputation of being an antagonist.
It will be interesting to see if he has enough quality to avoid being knocked out by Tyson early in the fight, and then if so, gather enough momentum to score a result against the boxing odds.
