Basketball is a sport that is enjoyed by people of all ages. Along with football and baseball, basketball is very popular in the US. There is no doubt that the best basketball players of all time have made the sport what it is today. And while there are many great players in the game today, there is no doubt that some players are better than others.  From the early days of the game to the present, there have been many great players who have graced the court and thrilled fans with their skills.

George Mikan in The 40’s

The first great player of the game was George Mikan, who dominated the sport in the 1940s and 1950s. He was a big man who could score at will and was virtually unstoppable on the court. He led the Minneapolis Lakers to several championships and is widely regarded as the greatest player of his era.

Another great player from the early days of the game was Bob Cousy. He was a master of the dribble and could weave his way through defenders with ease.

Julius Erving in The 70s

In the 1970s, the game of basketball changed with the arrival of Julius Erving. He was a high-flying player who could dunk with ease and was also an excellent shooter. He helped to popularize the game and led the Philadelphia 76ers to a championship in 1983.

Magic Magic Johnson

The 1980s was the era of Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. These two players were the best in the game and their rivalry helped to take the sport to new heights. Johnson was a gifted passer and playmaker who could also score when needed, while Bird was one of the best shooters the game has ever seen. Their battles in the NBA Finals are legendary and they are widely regarded as two of the greatest players of all time.

The 90s With Michael Jordan

The 1990s was the era of Michael Jordan. He was a supremely talented player who could do it all on the court. He was a lethal scorer, an excellent defender, and a clutch performer. Thanks to his amazing performances, the Chicago Bulls won six championships in the 1990s.

LeBron and Bryant

The 2000s has been a decade of great players as well. Kobe Bryant and LeBron James have both dominated the sport and have won multiple championships. Bryant was a gifted scorer who can also play excellent defense, while James is a versatile player who can do it all on the court. They are both considered to be among the greatest players of all time.

Kobe Bryant was an 18-time All-Star and clinched five NBA championships. He was among the greatest basketball players of his generation and played for 20 years with the Lakers. Unfortunately, he died in a helicopter crash on Jan. 26, 2020 at the age of 41.
