Betting is not limited to simply predicting the winner of a game; it can also involve wagering on specific players or events inside the game itself. A prop, or proposition bet, is a form of off-the-board bet on aspects of a game that may have no bearing on the final score.

Almost every major sport has prop bets available. Like regular game wagers, these wagers are made before the games begin. But in this guide, we will delve into the most popular prop bets in the National Football League (NFL).

The NFL Prop Bets

Among other college football odds options, the NFL props offer the most variety, with thousands of props available for the Super Bowl. Each week, the NFL offers dozens of different prop bets, which can be categorized under the following:

Player Props

Player props can be anything from a player’s stats to their final game figures. A prop bet is a wager on an event’s outcome based on a specific player’s performance. Moneylines, spreads, Over/Under totals, and yes/no bets are all common ways to wager on these. The following are the most popular player props in the league.

Touchdown Props

Prop bets on touchdowns are based on whether or not a player will score a touchdown during a game. The wager’s specifics determine whether this refers to rushing touchdowns, passing/receiving touchdowns, defensive team touchdowns, special teams touchdowns, or any touchdowns. Before placing your money on a player prop bet, be sure you’ve selected the correct touchdown category by reading the bet’s terms and conditions thoroughly.

The odds you get on NFL player props for touchdowns will vary significantly based on each player’s track record and the quantitative probability of scoring. Betting on a known player with a track record of success would yield better odds than putting your money on an up-and-comer.

Passing Props

In passing props, bets can be placed on such variables as the quarterback’s total passing yards, the number of passes attempted, and the total of passing touchdowns. For example, bettors at a sportsbook can choose whether a player will go Over or Under a specific total for passing yards, passing attempts, or passing touchdowns.

Receiving Props

The structure for receiving yards is the same. You can wager on the Over/Under for a player’s receiving yards and receptions in a game with NFL receiving props. The longest reception during a game and the player who received it can be wagered on using the Over/Under format.

Rushing Props

Rushing props are identical to passing props. The only difference is that they are used for rushing yards rather than passing yards. The Over/Under for a player’s total rushing yards, rush attempts, and rushing touchdowns can be found at most sportsbooks.

Defensive props

Defensive props allow you to wager on a player’s defensive prowess. Bets can be placed on a player’s total number of defensive stats like sacks, interceptions, and tackles.

Game Props

The opposite of player props is game props. Instead of concentrating on how an individual player performs, a game’s prop is based on the team’s overall performance.

Spreads/handicaps, moneylines, Over/Under totals, and yes/no wagers are all acceptable formats for creating these prop odds. In addition, props in a game can be based primarily on the whole game or its derivatives, such as innings, halves, and quarters.

Team Props

Individual performances of each team are the only subject of team props. Most commonly seen in prop bets are Over/Under wagers, moneylines, and Yes/No wagers. You can divide them into derivatives as well.

Novelty/Exotic Props

Novelty props are expected at the most watched sporting events, like the Super Bowl. However, they have little to do with the gameplay itself and instead focus on the unique market, like coin tosses, halftime shows, and more.

Super Bowl novelty props sometimes involve guessing the color of the Gatorade that will be poured on the victorious coach. Bets on how long it takes the National Anthem to play before a game are also popular.

How to Win in NFL Prop Bets?

If you’re betting for fun, you won’t get too serious about winning each bet. However, if you want to make money or make prop betting a form of income, you should consider the tips below.

Check for Value

When looking for prop bets to wager on, search for value plays with higher odds of success than expected. Some bets, however, may appear cheap despite having a high chance of winning. You can find the best deal by checking out different online sportsbooks to see who offers the best odds for your wager.

Place a Wager on Your Favorite Team

Betting on your favorite team could be a good idea if they are competing. For example, fans who bet on their favorite teams have an advantage in football prop bets because they have more intimate knowledge of the teams and players.

Make a Plan for Spending

It’s easy to go over budget when there are so many options to choose from. Keep an eye on how much money you’re risking on each prop bet, and play within your limits.

Conclusion

Since each game has so many statistics from so many players, NFL props are the most popular. NFL prop bets combine the best elements of sports betting: high excitement, huge rewards, plus risk. With this guide, we hope you can confidently place your first NFL prop bet and participate in the fun.
