A Season of Expectations Gone Wrong

The most famous trade in NBA history is often debated by sports analysts and fans alike. Some believe that this trade helped Orlando get back on track while others think that it hindered their progress. There are many more factors at play when determining whether or not this was a good move, but what cannot be denied is that it had some effect on both teams involved respectively.

Who is Shaquille O’Neal?

Shaquille O’Neal is a retired American basketball player and former rapper.

He is considered one of the best players in NBA history and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016. He played for four separate teams: the Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat and Phoenix Suns.

What trade did he make?

O’Neal was traded to the Lakers in 1996 after 5 seasons with Orlando, which included an appearance in the 1995 NBA Finals against Houston Rockets. The trade was meant to turn around Orlando’s fortunes, but it had the opposite effect as Shaq led Los Angeles to three titles.

Why did shaq leave the lakers

Shaq left the Lakers because he had a feud with Kobe Bryant. Shaq believed that Kobe took shots at his personal life, and was not giving him enough credit for winning championships.

Why was this trade popular?

The trade was popular because it was a swap of superstars. The Orlando Magic decided to trade Shaq because they thought that they would not be able to keep him as he entered free agency.

They wanted to pursue a younger player who would be able to stay with the team for many years. In addition to trading Shaq, they traded Nick Anderson and Anfernee Hardaway, players considered to be on the downside of their careers.

The Lakers were interested in acquiring a big center after center Vlade Divac signed with the Sacramento Kings during the 1997 offseason. This trade appeared to have resulted in a win-win situation for both teams as Shaq led Los Angeles to three titles and Orlando drafted Penny Hardaway.

What are his accomplishments?

In his 5 years with the Orlando Magic, Shaq helped them get to the NBA Finals in 1995 and take home a division title in 1996.

In his 17 seasons with Los Angeles Lakers, he won three titles.

In his 2 seasons with Miami Heat, he was able to win two division titles and one conference crown.

He retired after Phoenix Suns traded him for draft picks.

When did he play for the Lakers, Celtics, Heat, and Suns?

In his 17 seasons with Los Angeles Lakers, he won three titles. In his 2 seasons with Miami Heat, he was able to win two division titles and one conference crown. He retired after Phoenix Suns traded him for draft picks.

Why do people call him by that name now?

He was nicknamed Shaquille O’Neal because of how hard he dunks.

Conclusion

Shaquille O’Neal is one of the most famous players in NBA history. He played for four different teams and won three titles with Los Angeles Lakers while helping Orlando Magic reach the 1995 Finals against Houston Rockets. The trade was meant to turn around Orlando’s fortunes, but it had the opposite effect as Shaq led Los Angeles to three titles.

This trade appeared to have resulted in a win-win situation for both teams because Shaquille helped get back on track after they traded him away from Orlando Magic following his fifth season there, which included an appearance in the 1995 NBA Finals against Houston Rockets. It has been debated by sports analysts and fans alike whether or not this was a good move; some believe that this trade helped Orlando get back on.
