People call Antetokounmpo “Greek Freak” because he came to America to succeed and made his goal very quickly. At 18 years old, he entered the Greek Under-18 league before joining the senior men’s team in 2009, making it to the FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship for Team Greece at age 18 in 2010 where they won the silver medal.

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s early life in Athens, Greece

Giannis was born on December 6th 1994 in Athens, Greece. He played professional basketball when he was 16 years old entering the Greek Under-18 League before joining the senior men’s team.

Giannis’ basketball journey from high school to the NBA

In 2013, Antetokounmpo made a commitment to play college basketball in the United States for a year before making a decision about entering the NBA draft in 2014. He attended and played at the University of Florida in 2013-2014. After one season, he withdrew from UF in order to join the NBA.

He was drafted by Milwaukee Bucks with the 15th overall pick of the 2013 draft and signed his rookie deal with them on July 24th 2015. On October 26th 2017, he signed a four year extension worth $100 million with them!
