Introduce Yao Ming Yao Ming

Yao Ming (Chinese: 姚明; born September 12, 1980) is a retired professional basketball player who played for the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association and the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was selected to start for the East All-Star team three times and is generally considered one of China’s best players overseas. Yao, at 7’6″, was one of the tallest players in NBA history.

He is most remembered for his eight seasons with Houston. With Yao as its cornerstone, Houston advanced to the playoffs each year and won two out of three championships.

At 7’6″, Yao is the tallest player in NBA history. His size was a factor in injuries that he suffered, particularly when he severely sprained his ankle in 2002 and when he broke an ankle in 2003.

After playing for the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) for eight seasons, Yao was drafted by the Houston Rockets as the first overall pick in the 2002 NBA draft. He was selected to start for the East All-Star team three times and is generally considered one of China’s best players overseas.

Yao experienced some injury issues during his tenure with Houston. His size proved to be problematic when he sprained his ankle in 2002 and broke an ankle in 2003. During his career Yao Ming played in 8 seasons and averaged 19.0 PPG

He made $19,480,000 total during his career.

His most famous moments on the court 

One of his most famous moments on the court came when he led the Houston Rockets to win 2 out of 3 championships. He scored 38 points against the Orlando Magic in game 4 of the 1995 NBA Finals, which was one of his career-highs. Another one of his famous moments came during the 2000 NBA All-Star Game where he made a block on Allen Iverson.

After retiring from professional basketball in 2011, Yao Ming is still involved with the game. He is a commentator and TV host for the Houston Rockets games and also works for police in Shanghai.

Yao has been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a player. He is also now on the China’s People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) that “include[s] all walks of social and political life.

In addition to being a basketball player, he has also been an ambassador for UNICEF since 2005 and has helped bring awareness about AIDS prevention in Africa
